Move Mountains Youth

In partnership with the Acequia Institute, we are addressing the diabetes and obesity crises in Southern Costilla County.  By linking the San Luis Food Soverignty Initiative to a program of agricultural heritage internships with acequia farmers designed to produce healthier traditional food and nutrition practices.

Youth at Work

  1. Mobilize youth and young adults in rebuilding a robust local food system.
  2. Provide culturally appropriate place-based agricultural educational opportunities for youth and young adults through paid internships with local farmers to learn acequia farming methods and practices.
  3. Engage youth and young adults in learning about food cooperative governance and management.
  4. Prepare the next generation of farmers and food coop members as leaders who actively promote community health equity through good farming and diet practices.
